The St. Mary Industrial Group (SMIG) is a non-profit organization of business and industry that incorporated in the State of Louisiana in 1975. The organization functions primarily as a political action group focusing its efforts on community needs in the area of industrial, economic and employee/ employer concerns in St. Mary Parish.

SMIG views the educational system as a vital part of consistent personal and economic growth and recognizes that the future of Louisiana and its business community is directly related to the quality of education our children receive.

Mission Statement

The St. Mary Industrial Group (SMIG) is a non-profit organization of business and industry that incorporated in the State of Louisiana in 1975. The organization functions primarily as a political action group focusing its efforts on community needs in the area of industrial, economic and employee/ employer concerns in St. Mary Parish.

SMIG was organized for the following purposes:

  • To promote fellowship and a better understanding of the mutual problems affecting those engaged in industrial relations work in industry and business
  • To encourage the application of scientific methods to the human problems of industry and business, thereby increasing efficiency
  • To keep in touch with modern thoughts and trends in industrial relations by securing speakers of prominence and outstanding ability in their vocations or professions
  • To provide an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and discussion relating to all phases of industrial relations and other areas of interest to the membership
  • To render service to the members by offering advice and guidance on matters affecting industrial relations when called upon by membership
  • To render service to the community on industrial relations matters
  • To join allied associations, and send delegates to regional meetings and conventions, to take any other action generally consistent with the goals of the organization

Organization Overview

The St. Mary Industrial Group (SMIG) serves over 150 businesses and professionals and over 10,000 of their employees along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana.

Members of SMIG are ensured of having a viable voice and participation in the political and economic culture of the community.

Guest speakers are chosen from local, state and national political leaders, as well as industrial leaders who bring current events and informative topics before the membership.

Our annual golf tournament, held in March of each year, is a major fundraiser that supports programs related to infrastructure, economic development, education and coastal restoration. Funds raised also provide a $4,000.00 four-year scholarship to a qualified high school graduate.
